A woman walking in East Harlem was raped in the street by a stranger, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
The 39-year-old victim was walking near East 116th Street and Second Avenue around 1:40 a.m. Monday when an unknown man approached her from behind, police told Patch. The man forced the victim to the ground and forcibly raped her, police said.
The woman went to the hospital Wednesday for treatment, which is when the rape was reported to the police, and NYPD spokeswoman told source.
The attacker is described as a man standing around 6-feet-tall with a short afro, police said.
The NYPD Special Victims Unit is investigating the case, and no arrests have been made, police said.
