If you’re like me, someone who wants to visit Harlem one day and go on a hot dog journey.
Here are the best 4 places that are worth a visit or two.
- The Little Hot Dog Wagon
Given life almost five years ago by Dawn Demry; the Harlem-based food truck serves not only hot dogs, but vegan sausages, grilled chicken, and “fresh wild caught salmon steak burgers” which sounds really tempting, but the wagon is known for its homemade kraut. According to Thrillist, Key Foods has contracted Demry’s signature kraut in their stores nationwide and is in talks with Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods for potential opportunities.
The truck is usually on the corner of Lenox Avenue and 123rd Street and in Montclair, New Jersey, https://thelittlehotdogwagon.com/
- Mo’s Burgers
The neighborhood stable, Mo’s Burgers is owned by Maurice “Mo” Robison Jr. Even though he’s well known for his burgers, his hot dogs are just as good. The cart is also known for having reasonable prices: $2 for burgers and the hot dogs are $1.50.
If you’re interested, you can find him on Lenox Ave AKA Malcolm X BLVD between 117th and 118th Streets, https://www.yelp.com/biz/mos-burgers-new-york-2
Fair Warning: A review on Yelp says his hot sausages are no joke so make sure you get a drink with it.
- Harlem Shake
Not to get confused with the dance or the meme back in 2013. This Harlem Shake is a burger and milkshake joint on the corner of Lenox Ave and West 124th Street, https://www.harlemshakenyc.com/. This place serves two hot dogs: the Classic Hot Dog and the Snoop Dog, which is topped with chili and cheese. Why do they have a hot dog named after Snoop himself, I have no idea.
- Shake Shack
Mashed.com explains that it’s too expensive for some and not the best item on the menu, Shake Shack’s hot dog still places above average in taste. The highlight is not the meat itself, but the potato bun that’s around it.
It’s griddled and covered with melted butter. The hot dog is also better with cheese since it pops out the buttery flavor more.
Shake Shack is located at 1 West 125th Street, https://shakeshack.com/location/harlem-ny.
