This weekend dance dominants the art scene. There is dance on the Eastside, Westside downtown and uptown. Here are a few of the many events taking place around the city and in our community.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet continues their two-week season, through December 1 at the Joyce Theater. The season will present four new works by four choreographers. Artistic Director Dwight Rhoden will present the world premieres of a full-company work entitled Innervisions, set to the music of Stevie Wonder and Associate Artistic Director Jae Man Joo’s recur set to to music by Max Richter, Nils Frahm, Zoe Keating, Keith Kenniff and Valentin Silvestrov. Additional new works include Alejandro Cerrudo’s duet Never Was (company premiere), with music by Purcell & Handel; and You Do What You Can, a new work by company member Gary W. Jeter. Patricia Hoffbauer will present the premiere of Para-Dice (Stage 2) on November 21 through 23 at Danspace Project 131 East 10th Street. . Para-Dice (Stage 2) is a new performance work that combines dance, performance, film, academic lecture, language, and anthropology as a means of navigating racial politics and colonialism. The work was created and directed by Hoffbauer in collaboration with George Emilio Sanchez, Peter Richards, Peggy Gould, Elisa Osborne, Tom Rawe, Alyssa Alpine, and Laura Gilbert. Nu Dance 2013 the annual dance/choreographers showcase at the Riverside Theater, 91 Claremont Avenue between 120th and 121st Streets, on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 at 7:30pm. The six emerging dance makers and companies presented are; DASH Ensemble, Dance Iquail, Jeremy McQueen, Oui Danse, Cat Cogliandro and Buggé Ballet. A “Talk Back” by choreographers will follow each performance. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or online at www.riversideboxoffice.org/peo/show.asp.

Ballet Hispanico returns to the legendary Apollo Theater, 253 W. 125th Street, for one performance on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 7:30pm. The production will feature the world premieres of Embral by Edgar Zendejas inspired by the beloved Mexican celebration, and  Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro’s HOGAR set to a mix of classical, Latin, and gypsy melodies; and performed live by Lev Zhurbin and his string ensemble. The athletic tour de force for six male dancers Sombrerísimo by Belgian-Colombian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa will also be presenting, the work will make its Apollo premiere.
