On St. Valentine’s Day, February 14, Vogue contributing editor and fashion icon Andre Leon Talley was honored during the EMERGE! fashion show, which was held at the Broad Street Ballroom in lower Manhattan.
Designer Diane Von Furstenberg presented the award to her close friend and colleague and actress Tracee Ellis Ross was the host for the evening. EMERGE! presented the fall/winter collections of six new and emerging designers.

Talley rose to prominence in the international fashion industry from the humblest of beginnings. Born in the African-American community of Hayti, Durham, North Carolina, his parents left him with his grandmother, Bennie Davis. Talley claims, it was Davis that gave him an “understanding of luxury.”
After graduating from North Carolina Central University, Talley received his master’s degree in French from Brown University. His first job was as an assistant for Andy Warhol, the job paid $50 a week. One of his greatest associations was with former American Vogue editor-in-chief and Costume Institute consultant, Diana Vreeland.
