On Tuesday May 3, Ailey At The Apollo, the annual Spring Gala Benefit,
returns to the world famous Apollo Theater . The evening brings together the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, and talented students from the Ailey School for a one- night performance. The proceeds of the event will benefit scholarships to the Ailey School and Ailey Arts In Education Programs that serve New York students.

The event will honor longtime Ailey supporter and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Guido Goldman, PhD. Adding the extra star power the Honorary Chairs for the evening are husband and wife actors Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance. Bassett was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It? Vance was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in August Wilson’s Fences, and is presently on the Emmy Award winning series The Closer (TNT).

The Ailey Ailey American Dance Theater will share highlights from Anointed the prophetic work by former company member Christopher Huggins and Camille Brown’s witty solo The Evolution of A Secured Feminine. Donald Byrd’s Shards, one of the hits of the recent Ailey II season will also be performed, as well as Ailey’s masterwork Revelations. The performance will be followed by an evening of dining and dancing “Ailey Style” with music by deejay to the stars DJ Ruckus.

The Credo of company founder Alvin Ailey was that everyone should experience the joy of dance, especially our youth.
