Vincent Herring, an exhilarating alto saxophonist who personifies the spirit of musical giants like Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, and Cannonball Adderley, leads a powerful quartet in a new and exciting regular Monday night residency. Herring has long been regarded as one of the foremost jazz artists of the modern era, and he has performed with a veritable who’s who including Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Jack DeJohnette, Cedar Walton and so many more. The New York City Jazz Record states, “Herring has firmly established himself as one of his generation’s masters.” His quartet is no less impressive with Victor Gould, Yasushi Nakamura and Carl Allen. The band plays two sets at 7 and 9 before welcoming some of NYC’s top musicians to participate in Smoke’s long-running jam session.
