Uptowns Congressman Adriano Espaillat Statement On Israeli Settlements

January 5, 2017

Uptown Congressman Adriano Espaillat released the following statement today following his vote in support of H.Res.11, disapproving of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2334, a UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

“The United States has long supported a negotiated settlement leading to a sustainable two-state solution with the democratic, Jewish state of Israel and a demilitarized, democratic Palestinian state living side-by-side in peace and security,” said Rep. Espaillat.  “I am proud to stand with my colleagues to oppose United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 and vow to work to help strengthen the United States-Israel relationship.  The two-state solution has been the foundation for building peace between Israelis and Palestinians for many generations, and it is my hope that all final status issues toward a two-state solution be resolved through direct bilateral negotiations.  The UN Security Council Resolution is not the most effective solution and does not bring us closer to peace, which should be the goal.”
