Uptown Rep. Rodriguez On Overdose Prevention Center Announcement (Spanish)

May 4, 2018

On Friday, May 4th, 2018, uptown Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez issued the following statement on the announcement of opening an Overdose Prevention Center in Washington Heights:

“The rise in opioid use and abuse is a national epidemic that is, unfortunately, affecting our neighborhoods. The people that would be seeking services at Overdose Prevention Centers need our help and support.

“In the coming weeks, I look forward to engaging the community in this conversation and listening their thoughts and concerns about siting such a center in our community.

“Above all, we must ensure we make thoughtful decisions for the benefit of those receiving services and nearby residents. We would also have to be careful of where we site the center, particularly in light of our experience with a similar facility in our district.”
