A fatal Metro-North train derailment Sunday on a corridor between New York and Albany disrupted service as many travelers were returning from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and was expected to complicate Monday’s commute for residents along the line between New York and Poughkeepsie.
Service on the Spuyten Duyvil is on Metro-North’s Hudson line has been suspended. Metro-North officials are encouraging riders to use the subway and Harlem Lines to get to their destinations.
Until 2 a.m. on Monday, the railroad is providing shuttle service between White Plains and Tarrytown, with a connection to Metro-North’s Harlem Line, for customers traveling in and out of Grand Central Terminal. Officials said they did not know how long service would be disrupted.
Metro-North’s Harlem Line and MTA subway lines are honoring Hudson Line tickets. Additional parking will be in place at the northern terminal of the Harlem line. There will also be additional spots at Kensico Dam, which is a short walk to the Valhalla station on the Harlem Line, Metro-North officials said.
As of Sunday evening, Amtrak service between Albany and New York City was running with delays.
