Oyate Group, a Bronx-based nonprofit on a mission to alleviate poverty, today announced its fifth annual turkey drive.
The nonprofit will distribute a total of 2,000 turkeys to feed undernourished households in New York City for Thanksgiving through partnerships with local organizations and elected officials.
With New York considered one of the top 10 most expensive turkey states during the Thanksgiving season, Oyate Group ensures that New Yorkers historically marginalized by food deserts have access to a fresh and bountiful Thanksgiving dinner.
“People deserve to spend time with their families this Thanksgiving season without worrying about putting food on the table,” said Oyate Group CEO, President and Founder Tomas Ramos. “We are grateful to our partners for helping us continue our Thanksgiving tradition for the fifth year in a row by distributing much-needed fresh food to their constituents and communities.”
Operating from its headquarters in Mott Haven, Oyate Group relies on its robust network of partners to meet the diverse needs of thousands of New Yorkers. Since November 2020, Oyate Group has provided nearly 6,000 turkeys to local community leaders to distribute across the city to ensure families in need can celebrate the season of gratitude each year.
Families and individuals can register to pick up a turkey on a first-come, first-serve basis directly from Oyate Group at La Finca del Sur at 110 E 138 St., Bronx, NY, on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. ET here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KC9K2XC.

Beyond its steadfast commitment to combating food insecurity, Oyate Group is known for combating cycles of generational poverty through holistic and sustainable solutions that close gaps in resources and services for marginalized communities, youth, small businesses, artists and more on a local to an international level. Some of Oyate Group’s most notable work includes vaccinating over 40,000 Bronxites deemed “unreachable” by the city during the COVID-19 pandemic through the Bronx Rising Initiative, creating Beyond Rising to provide year-round paid internships for undocumented high school and college students in New York City and launching Rising Restaurateur with Grubhub and the New York State Latino Restaurant & Bar Association to support Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander restaurant owners with $200,000 in microgrants.
As the year winds down, Oyate Group strives to continue to be a source of inspiration for the city, encouraging the community to come together this Thanksgiving season to receive a free turkey during the uplifting turkey drives hosted by its partner organizations.
