Travel Advisory Heavy Rainfall And Thunderstorms From Harlem To Hollis

New York City Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory for Tuesday, August 6th to Wednesday, August 7th, 2024.  

New Yorkers are advised to prepare for brief heavy rainfall rain and thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service issued a citywide Flood Watch in effect from 2 PM on Tuesday, August 6th to 12 PM on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024.  A few isolated showers and thunderstorms may produce brief heavy rainfall and minor flooding as early as tomorrow morning with storms increasing in coverage by the afternoon.

More widespread showers and thunderstorms may develop over the city overnight into Wednesday morning, with the potential for continued storm activity during the day Wednesday. As of right now, the worst of the impacts are anticipated tomorrow evening and overnight into early Wednesday morning.

Periods of heavy rain may cause flooding in the city, including highways, streets, basements, and underpasses.

During periods of heavy rain, seek higher ground or, if in a basement, move to a higher floor. City agencies have taken action to clean catch basins and remove street litter in the event heavier rain occurs.

Heavy rain may create dangerous travel conditions:


New Yorkers are advised to limit travel and stay inside during periods of severe weather.
If you must travel, exercise caution.

Do not drive your vehicle or walk into areas where water covers the roadway as the water depth may be too great to allow you to cross safely.

If you are outside during a thunderstorm, avoid open areas and try to seek shelter indoors.
