With a number of Catholic Churchs in Harlem, today on SiriusXM, Timothy Cardinal Dolan discussed the launch of a restoration fundraiser for the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, in conjunction with Ken Langone and other benefactors.
Speaking on Seize the Day with Gus Lloyd, which airs on SiriusXM’s The Catholic Channel, Cardinal Dolan shared that the “From Saint Patrick’s to Notre Dame” fund has already raised around $150,000 in just one day:
“Well, look some of us religious leaders, Rabbi Joe Potasnik, Reverend A. R. Bernard, we all got together and we were joined by a couple wonderful civic and philanthropic leaders like Ken Langone who said, ‘Yeah, let’s do something. Let’s set up a fund where people can call in with their contributions, and let’s get those contributions to the man who can do most about it, namely the Archbishop of Paris’.”
The Catholic Channel is also the home of Conversation with Cardinal Dolan, a weekly show hosted by His Eminence.
I’ve got to say, too, that so many New Yorkers said, “Boy, we’re crying for the people in Paris because we know how down and crushed we’d be if our beloved St. Patrick’s went.” So, I thought, let’s twin the two and so we started it.
Cardinal Dolan Announces the “From Saint Patrick’s to Notre Dame” Fund:
Cardinal Dolan: Everybody says the same two things. They’ll say, “Oh my God, how sad, how awful.” Number two, and more importantly, they’ll say, “I wish there was some way to help.” Well, look some of us religious leaders, Rabbi Joe Potasnik, Reverend A. R. Bernard, we all got together and we were joined by a couple wonderful civic and philanthropic leaders like Ken Langone who said, “Yeah, let’s do something. Let’s set up a fund where people can call in with their contributions, and let’s get those contributions to the man who can do most about it, namely the Archbishop of Paris.” That’s his church, the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris. Archbishop Michel Aupetit. So we set one up today, Gus, we just had a press conference. I was thrilled with the attendance of the press, their interest. Of course, we fibbed a little and said we were going to release the Mueller Report early, but anyway, they were all there and we announced it. I said, look, folks, everybody is out there looking for a way to help. Here it is. We announced the “From St. Patrick’s to Notre Dame” fund, and I wanted really to twin our beloved St Patrick’s Cathedral, America’s parish church here on Fifth Avenue, with Notre Dame. I would have to say that Notre Dame is a lot more historic and better known than St. Patrick’s. I’ve got to say, too, that so many New Yorkers said, “Boy, we’re crying for the people in Paris because we know how down and crushed we’d be if our beloved St. Patrick’s went.” So, I thought, let’s twin the two and so we started it. The “From St. Patrick’s to Notre Dame,” fund and people could contribute, and by the way, they already are. We’ve got about one hundred and fifty thousand dollars already. Can you believe it? You interested, Gus? Can I announce how they can access it?
Gus Lloyd: Sure, now how can people get involved, Cardinal if they would like to do that?
Cardinal Dolan: Here it is: www.sptond.org and the good old fashioned people like me, mail it ‘From St. Patrick’s to Notre Dame’ fund, 1011 1st Avenue, New York, NY 10022, and we’re going to give it all to the Archbishop of Paris.
