Department of Education is extending the Pre-K Application deadline – families have until March 3, 2017, to apply to pre-K! All students born in 2013 who currently live in New York City are eligible to attend free, full-day, high-quality pre-K in September 2017; there is a seat for every student born in 2013. Families must submit an application in order to receive a pre-K placement, and all applications received by the March 3, 2017 deadline are treated the same, according to programs’ admissions priorities.
Families are able to apply in one of three ways:
- Online at nyc.gov/prek. The online application is available in ten languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Haitian Creole, Bengali, Urdu and French)
- Over the phone, by calling 718-935-2067. Families can access translation services over the phone in over 200 languages
- In person at one of the DOE’s Family Welcome Centers. Families can find their local Family Welcome Center by visiting our website here
Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña, “I encourage all families with children born in 2013 to apply for free, full-day, high-quality pre-K by March 3 – it’s easy to apply and this is a critical year where students will build the foundation they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.”
The Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives Richard Buery, “I couldn’t be more excited to make Pre-K for All available to NYC families for the fourth year in a row. With an extra week to apply, I hope all families are able to take advantage of this great City resource and set their children on the path to lifelong success.”
