The Sounds Of Harlem Come Alive During Marathon Week In Harlem 2024

November 11, 2024

The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce in partnership with New York Road Runners presented its annual Marathon Week In Harlem on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

Co-hosted by WBLS on-air personality “Dr.” Bob Lee, the festive celebration included the Percy Sutton Harlem Miles, an outdoor concert highlighting the global Sounds of Harlem with musical showcases produced by Harlem Music Festival.

Taking the stage to inspire runners on as they enter the final stretch of the marathon, The Percy Sutton Harlem Miles featured performances from percussionist BaBa Don, jazz drummer Phil Young and other performances including The Jeff Fox Band, and R&B showcase from talent producer Joey Harris featuring the eclectic sounds from Yonkers born singer, songwriter Kaira, St. Thomas United States Virgin Island poet and author Tu’Shouney Phillips, and Houston, Texas singer, songwriter Calla.

In addition to the live outdoor concert that took place along the 22nd mile mark, The Percy Sutton Harlem Miles included a special VIP jazz concert featuring Nat Adderley, Jr. The legendary pianist and music arranger, renowned for producing R&B great Luther Vandross, serenaded the audience with a diverse melody of hits, including jazz classics from his father the late great jazz trumpeter Nat Adderley Sr., while DJ Tall Guy rocked the crowd on the turntables.

In conjunction with the Sounds of Harlem performances, Marathon Week In Harlem 2024 provided an opportunity to explore Harlem’s unique retail shops, boutiques, and marketplaces, discover its historic sites, partake in rich arts and culture through visits to its various museums, churches, houses of worship, and religious institutions.

As part of The International Taste of Harlem 2024, patrons can experience Harlem’s global palate at a variety of international restaurants.
