The Fortune Society Hosts The Sixth Annual Victor Rojas Block Party In Harlem

August 19, 2024

The Fortune Society (Fortune) presents the Victor Rojas Annual Block Party for people of all ages at its Castle Gardens facility in Harlem on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Community partners, elected officials, and neighbors and friends of The Fortune Society will come together for a day of music, games, food, beverages, a creative arts showcase, and school supply giveaways.

Victor Rojas, who the block party is named in memory of, was a beloved Fortune Society employee who died too soon. He first came to Fortune as a participant living in the Castle until being hired as a full-time Counselor on the Fortune Family Services team.

Victor made strides while at Fortune moving into the permanent, affordable residence, Castle Gardens, and taking on additional responsibilities with the Housing department. He inspired participants and colleagues with his warmth and sense of humor.

The Fortune Society

Founded in 1967, The Fortune Society has advocated on criminal justice issues for over five decades and is nationally recognized for developing model programs that help people with criminal justice histories to be assets to their communities.  Fortune offers a holistic and integrated “one-stop-shopping” model of service provision. Among the services offered are discharge planning, licensed outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment, alternatives to incarceration, HIV/AIDS services, career development and job retention, education, family services, drop-in services, and supportive housing as well as lifetime access to aftercare. Fortune has a dual mission of services and advocacy.  We use what we learn from our justice impacted staff and leadership and from the people we serve about the obstacles that people with criminal histories face to inform and fuel.
