The Salon Series is a new-works incubation and performance series that features artists working in a broad spectrum of the performing arts, including new media, and provides a testing ground for projects—including a week of development work on the Apollo’s soundstage (150 seat black box theater) —culminating in two workshop performances.
Salon Series – Jonzi D’s Freestyle Project Residency: April 8-17, 2014 Performances: April 18-19, 2014 The Apollo Theater expands on its relationship with British hip-hop theater maker and performer, Jonzi D, by inviting him to return for a two-week residency to further develop the immersive freestyle experience that blew audiences away during last season’s critically acclaimed U.S. premiere of Breakin’ Convention, an international festival of hip hop dance theater, which is presented annually at Sadler’s Wells in London. Jonzi, along with award winning UK based alto-saxophonist/MC Soweto Kinch, will team up with a dynamic ensemble of NYC hip-hop performers for a creative cultural exchange as they share, explore, and reinvent hip-hop dance theater techniques.
