Tenants’ Rights Day In Harlem

June 9, 2014

city council logoEvery Harlemite and New Yorker deserves a safe and livable home. Since I took office, I have been working hard to make sure that we protect tenants in my district and the entire city. This coming Wednesday, I’m urging you to join me:

Rally with Coalition for Justice in Housing Court

I’m holding a rally to fight for my bill to provide low-income tenants in housing court with an attorney. Nearly a quarter of a million New Yorkers were served with eviction papers last year and 90% of those who ended up in court had to fight without the benefit of having an attorney. This just isn’t fair. If you agree that this need to change, join me this Wednesday on the Steps of City Hall:

Wednesday, June 11th
1:00 PM
City Hall Steps

To learn more or to RSVP visit our website or call 212-928-6814.  Note that if you plan on attending, we recommend you arrive at 12:30 to have enough time to go through security.

Discuss Tenants’ Rights with City Agencies

In the evening, I’ve partnered with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development on a town hall to discuss tenants’ rights.  Join us for a conversation with representatives from agencies and organizations including the Department of Housing, Preservation, and Development, The New York City Housing Authority, and Housing Court Answers.

These representatives will also be available to take your individual questions and concerns on any issue you may have with your own apartment or landlord.

Wednesday, June 11th
6:00 to 8:00 PM
Cafeteria, PS/IS 210
503 W 152nd Street at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue
