February 22, 2017

New Yorkers in pursuit of a Supreme-branded MetroCard are running out of time. The MTA re-stocked MetroCard vending machines Wednesday with the last remaining round of the cards emblazoned with the red and white logo of the popular streetwear brand, according to a statement.

“All limited run Supreme branded MetroCards have been released in-system,” The MTA said Wednesday on Twitter. The cards are dispensed at vending machines at Broadway-Lafayette, the 125th Street 2/3, Queens Plaza, Marcy Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Prince Street, Spring Street and Union Square stations, according to the MTA

The statement caused some confusion as to whether the limited-edition cards had been completely sold out, but an MTA spokesman confirmed with Patch that the final round of cards was released Wednesday. The cards are dispensed at vending machines at Broadway-Lafayette, the 125th Street 2/3, Queens Plaza, Marcy Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Prince Street, Spring Street and Union Square stations, according to the MTA. The cards were first released at Supreme’s SoHo store as part of the brand’s spring and summer 2017 accessory lineup.

The MTA would not confirm how many Supreme MetroCards were released during the span of the promotion. The cards first appeared in MetroCard machines Monday, which caused New York City’s hypebeasts and resellers to flock to the subway.

As with any coveted release, resellers were quick to hit the Subway with the hopes of snagging enough Supreme MetroCards to turn a profit. Hundreds of the cards, most containing the minimum MetroCard balance of $5.50, are currently on the market for around $50 on Ebay, but some ambitious resellers have marketed the cards for more than $100.
