December 19, 2013

grow nycThe new year is here, and Harlem residents resolving to get rid of last year’s clutter need look no further than Stop ‘N’ Swap®, a free community event organized by local non-profit GrowNYC coming to Harlem on January 25th. And for those who didn’t get enough presents this holiday season, there are plenty of hidden treasures for the taking.

Harlem Stop ‘N’ Swap

Saturday, January 25th

12-3PM

Salvation Army Harlem Temple

540 Lenox (enter on 138th street), Manhattan

Stop ‘N’ Swaps invite the public to bring clean, portable, reusable items to share with those who can use them. No one is required to bring something to take something—you can simply show up with a bag and see what’s free for the taking. Books, toys, fashionable clothing, housewares and electronics are just some of the offerings. Anything leftover at the end of the day is donated or recycled. Furniture and other large items are not accepted at the swap.

Stop ‘N’ Swaps have developed a regular following among thrifty and environmentally conscious New Yorkers. In response to increasing demand, GrowNYC has hired two dedicated staff members to coordinate Stop ‘N’ Swaps across the city.

“Manhattan communities are some of the most enthusiastic participants in Stop ‘N’ Swaps, and residents can look forward to a swap in every one of the borough’s 12 community districts each year, as part of our goal to host a swap in all 59 community districts citywide on an annual basis,” said David Hurd, the Director of GrowNYC’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education.
