Harlem Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito Remarks DACA Press Conference (Video)

September 6, 2017

Harlem Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito remarked:

“For me it’s very hard to maintain my composure when we see the level of cruelty and inhumanity that consistently is being inflicted by this administration. A cruelty and inhumanity that is destroying the very fabric of this democracy that we all hold dear. I am here to say resoundingly and unwaveringly to immigrant new Yorkers, to nuestra familia that we stand by you and for you, while this president is abandoning you, we will not. Repealing DACA is the latest ploy from a cruel uncaring white house and president that is hell-bent on undermining our nation and the American dream. What we heard today was a distortion of DACA and its impact on our country, instead of rewarding these hardworking Americans, the president and the attorney general are pitting communities against each other with blatant lies. This is not about jobs, this is about racism and xenophobia. DACA recipients are not taking away jobs and it certainly didn’t cause a surge of Central American refugees along the border. This repeal goes against who we are as a city and as a nation. So today the city of New York is sending a loud and clear message to dreamers. We see you, we value you, you matter and we are going to fight for you.”
