State Senator Anna M. Kaplan issued the following statement today following news that President Joe Biden had lifted restrictions against transgender service members in the U.S. military:
Senator Anna M. Kaplan said “Exactly two years ago today, Governor Cuomo signed GENDA into law, giving transgender New Yorkers long-overdue protections from discrimination.
Today we have another milestone to celebrate, as President Biden has repealed the former President’s ban on transgender people serving in our military.
By repealing this harmful and discriminatory ban that took able-bodied, patriotic American service members out of our armed forces, we’re restoring the ability for every qualifying American to have an opportunity to answer the call to service once again.”
