Screening Of Doc On Abortion Doctor Curtis Boyd + Talkback With Filmmakers In Harlem

July 13, 2022

Screening followed by a discussion with Director Kyle Boyd and Cinematographer Mike Harlow

The example of Dr. Curtis Boyd could not be more relevant today.

In overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court has essentially stripped women of legal status as full human beings. Forced motherhood is female enslavement!

The Christian-fascist overturning of abortion rights must not stand.

RiseUp4AbortionRight.org has been leading people to take to the streets to demand legal nationwide abortion on demand now.

And doctors heroically performing abortions in clinics under legal (and mob) threat must be defended.

Baptist minister CURTIS BOYD relinquished the pulpit in the 1960s to become a doctor who worked with a group of ministers in Texas to provide thousands of safe, illegal abortions prior to Roe v. Wade.

This rarely-seen film tells his powerful story. It was originally aired in 2004 on the PBS Independent Lens series.

“A kickass documentary… As for the group of clergy who formed an abortion underground railroad of sorts, I will applaud you just as soon as I’m done using my hands to pry my jaw off the floor” — Spike Gillespie, AustinMama.com
