On this cool December evening in Harlem, Sisters Uptown Bookstore was filled with locals who were passing by the store and stopped as well as Samuels’ friends and family. Light hors d’oeuvres sat on the counter top and light music played in the background. Samuels greeted guests one by one. A lot of smiles and words of appreciation and encouragement filled the conversations between Samuels and guests as she signed her book and took pictures.

With standing room only, Samuels took a break from signings books to do some reading from the book. The book which honors her father Calvin H. Samuels who died of cancer, is infused with stories, poetry and art.

Overwhelmed with feelings Samuels began reading excerpts from the book. She was later joined by her friend and Harlem’s own Celebrity Shoe Designer Etu Evans, who helped with some of the reading. Interestingly enough, his portion of the reading including an interaction between him and Samuels.
