Ron Simons, Four-Time Tony-Winning Broadway Producer, Dies At 63

Ron Simons, a Tony Award-winning producer renowned for his transformative impact on Broadway, passed away at the age of 63.

The announcement was made by SimonSays Entertainment, the company he founded in 2009.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved friend, Ronald Keith Simons,” the production company expressed in a statement. “Funeral details will be forthcoming.”

Simons, born in Detroit on November 30, 1960, embarked on a diverse career path that began with earning an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1989 and included a stint at Microsoft before he transitioned into acting at the age of 39. Moving to New York, he joined The Classical Theatre of Harlem and gradually built a notable television acting resume spanning series like “Law & Order,” “Marvel’s The Defenders,” and appearances in films such as “27 Dresses” and “Blue Caprice.”

Transitioning to producing in the early 2000s, Simons made significant strides in both film and theater. His Broadway productions included the Tony-winning revival of “Porgy and Bess” and “A Streetcar Named Desire,” among others. Simons was also a key figure behind the groundbreaking Broadway productions of “Thoughts of a Colored Man” and the revival of “for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf.”
