Hellllllooooo, did anyone notice that Harlem girl Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire” won the prize for R&B album at the 56th Grammy Awards this past Sunday? Where is the love?
The songstress went up against some heavy competition with Faith Evans‘ ‘R&B Divas,’ John Legend‘s ‘Love in the Future,’ Chrisette Michele‘s ‘Better’ and TGT‘s ‘Three Kings.’
Asked about her evolution in the music business, “I think it’s mostly just stepping into your womanhood,” she told The Times in a 2012 interview about the album. “[‘Girl on Fire’] is really about finding your own passion, finding your own flow and standing in your own space. And just being fully and completely yourself.”
Keys was only nominated for one Grammy this time around. But there’s no doubt that she’s a big winner as tonight’s win makes a total of 15 Grammy Awards she’s earned since she was nominated in 2002 for ‘Songs in A Minor’ and ‘Fallin’.’
The Grammys are determined by about 13,000 voting members. The eligibility period for nominated recordings was Oct. 1, 2012, to Sept. 30, 2013.
