Ol’ Dirty Bastard Provides Soundtrack For ‘Luke Cage’ Harlem’s Hero (Update)

July 22, 2016

luke cage on marvel and netflixMarvel unveiled the first official Luke Cage trailer tonight, providing a glimpse into the musclebound crime fighter’s world as he battles evil elements in Harlem, New York City. What’s been called “The Wire of Marvel television” puts ’90s hip-hop at center stage: The trailer (below) sees Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s “Shimmy Shimmy Yah” serenade the action.

According to executive producer and screenwriter Cheo Hodari Coker, every episode is named after a Gang Starr song, which only hammers home the NYC hip-hop vibe. Mike Colter resumes his general badass-ery, deflecting bullets and breaking bad guys’ fists with his superhuman face. The actor originally played Luke Cage in Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones series, but looks ready to firmly cement his place among the comic hero ranks when Luke Cage drops on Netflx September 30, 2016.
