NYC Children’s Theater Gives Away Ticket for #GivingTuesday

November 24, 2015

Cast-of-Ballerina-Swan1The award-winning New York City Children’s Theater is giving back for #GivingTuesday by offering FREE tickets to select performances of Young Charles Dickens and Ballerina Swan this holiday season.

“For 82% of the students who see our shows, ours are the first professional theater productions they ever see. Students and families from economically and geographically disadvantaged neighborhoods are simply not given the opportunity to see professional theater,” says Andrew Frank, Executive Director of New York City Children’s Theater, “while some Broadway shows are reaching out to student populations, there is virtually no program geared towards the family unit.”

The nonprofit has been offering free tickets to families through Big Brothers/Big Sisters and other community partners. Additional free tickets will become available to the general public on Tuesday, December 1st via New York City Children’s Theater’s website for the following performances:

Young Charles Dickens (Best for age 8+)

Sunday, December 6th at 1:00 & 4:00pm (opening weekend)

Before he became a famous writer, Charles Dickens was a typical 12-year-old boy with a gift for telling stories. But it wasn’t until he had to spend a year supporting his family, working on Christmas Eve, that he realized just how important his stories could be.

Based on the true story of Charles Dickens’s childhood, Young Charles Dickens is the uplifting story of how one of the most famous writers of all time found his calling.

BALLERINA SWAN (Best for ages 3-8)

December 13th at 11:00am & 1:00pm

Back by popular demand, Ballerina Swan blends dance, theater and puppetry to tell the story of Sophie, a Central Park swan who dreams of becoming a ballerina.Based on the book by former NYC prima ballerina Allegra Kent, Ballerina Swan features a five-foot dancing swan puppet that wowed children and adults alike during the show’s 2013 run.

All performances take place at:

Theater 3, 311 West 43rd Street (bet. 8-9th Ave.), 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10036
