New York’s Political Establishment: Wake Up To The CCP’s Growing Influence

September 13, 2024

Recent revelations have exposed an alarming trend of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence reaching into the highest levels of New York City’s government and law enforcement.

From the NYPD to the governor’s office, evidence suggests a concerted effort by Beijing to infiltrate and shape local politics.

A Web of Connections

The latest bombshell comes from Isabel Vincent’s Post exclusive, uncovering CCP ties within the NYPD’s top brass. Former Assistant Commissioner Giu’An Lin, a close aide to ex-Commissioner Edward Caban, had longstanding links to CCP-controlled “United Front” groups. For over a decade, Lin held a leadership role in a nonprofit associated with this network, known for disseminating Chinese propaganda in the U.S.

This revelation follows the arrest of Linda Sun, a former aide to Governor Hochul, and her husband Christopher Hu, for allegedly acting as secret Chinese agents. Sun’s political connections run deep, including work for former Governor Cuomo and current Congresswoman Grace Meng.

Broader Implications

These cases represent just the tip of the iceberg. The FBI is currently investigating ex-Mayor Adams aide Winnie Greco for potential CCP connections, while two individuals face charges for operating a covert Chinese police station in Manhattan.

Steven W. Mosher, an expert on China, warns that CCP front groups are active in major U.S. cities beyond New York, including Los Angeles and San Francisco. Their goals? To elect Beijing-friendly politicians and place agents within government structures.

A Growing Threat

The CCP’s influence operations have become increasingly bold. Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens) claims that CCP-affiliated groups attempted to unseat him in the recent Democratic primary, narrowly failing by just 443 votes.

What’s at Stake

While many Chinese Americans oppose the CCP’s actions, Beijing’s show of influence serves a dual purpose: to sway local politics and intimidate potential dissidents within the diaspora community. The CCP is known to monitor and even target critics abroad, making this a human rights concern as well as a national security issue.

Time for Action

Governor Hochul took a positive step by firing Linda Sun upon discovering her covert promotion of CCP agendas. However, more comprehensive action is needed. A bipartisan state commission to investigate Beijing’s influence operations could be a crucial next step.

As former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warns, “The dragon is inside the gates.” New York’s leaders must act swiftly to safeguard the integrity of local democracy and protect all residents from foreign interference.
