‘N Sync’s Lance Bass endorses Harlem Councilwoman

January 7, 2014

lance and markHarlem Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito secured the coveted N’ Sync endorsement in the race to become the next City Council speaker.

Lance Bass joined over two dozen LGBT community activists, including former “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon, in announcing his support for the councilwoman Monday.

“Melissa has been an effective and consistent advocate for the LGBT community,” Bass said in a statement.

Bass endorsed former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who would have been the first openly gay mayor, in that race earlier this year.

Mark-Viverito declared victory last month after a majority of 51 council members pledged to vote for her on Wednesday. That support came after Mayor Bill de Blasio expressed his preference for the councilwoman in phone calls to several council members.

Despite her support from the council and Bass, East Side Councilman Dan Garodnick remains in the running.

Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men have yet to make an endorsement in the race.
