When The Hate U Give opens for limited release this weekend in New York City, 20th Century Fox and AMC Theatres will offer a free screening for local youth-serving organizations at Magic Johnson Harlem 9. New York was among nine cities for their active conversations around racial equity and sizeable youth populations.
Students and youth-serving community organizations can visit amctheatres.com/group/the-hate-u-give to reserve their tickets for Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 11 am.
To ensure that more youth are exposed to the film’s powerful story of youth activism in the face of racial tension and gun violence, parent brand 21st Century Fox is launching a campaign to bring up to 50 screenings to communities around the country. Schools, community groups and nonprofit organizations can apply for free screenings at screenings.thehateugive.com. Applications are due October 22, 2018, and winners will be selected by October 31, 2018.
Individuals interested in supporting screenings for classrooms can contribute viadonorschoose.org/thehateugivemovie. 21st Century Fox will match donations up to $25,000. Educators are also invited to download a complimentary curriculum guide for middle school through college with footage, interviews, and photos from the film.
The Hate U Give community screenings campaign follows the widespread effort last year to expose more youth to Hidden Figures and the brilliant African-American women behind John Glenn’s launch into orbit. Over 7,000 groups applied for screenings and 6,300 tickets were given out as part of the program.
The Hate U Give will be shown in select theatres beginning October 5, and everywhere October 19, 2018.
