Kelis Is Launching A Pop-Up Burger Restaurant Across The Pond This Summer

June 20, 2016

Kelis1Kelis’ love affair with the culinary arts is well known. In 2008, the singer put her music career on hold to study at Le Cordon Bleu, the prestigious hospitality institution, and six years later, she released her first cookbook, My Life on a Plate. Her latest album, simply titled Food, featured tracks like “Jerk Ribs” and “Biscuits n’ Gravy,” and over the years it’s been said that her “milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.”

Now, the artist’s work will finally jump off the page. On Monday, NME reported that Kelis is opening a pop-up restaurant at London’s Leicester House this summer (the same Leicester City that recently won England’s Premier League title). The restaurant is launching in collaboration with Le Bun—a French-American burger outfit operated by Andy Taylor and Tim Talbot—and will feature hamburgers, as well as “South American arepa buns that Kelis enjoys.” The pop-up will be open in London on July 6, 7, 13, and 14 before heading to the Standon Calling festival, where Kelis is also set to perform.

“I’ve been looking forward to bringing my cooking to London for years,” Kelis told NME. “This July I’m over for lots of festivals and it’s the perfect time to finally make this pop up restaurant dream a reality. The Le Bun guys are the perfect partners and I can’t wait for everyone to have a taste.”
