Jindai Joseph’s New Music Gives Insight To A Complex Harlem Vibe

July 28, 2016

Jinda joseph from harlemJindai Joseph’s star started rising early as a child, writing at the tender age of 3. At 10, she started writing her own music and by her high school years. Her father is heralded playwright / film maker /Black Panther Jamal Joseph.

All Hip Hop reports that her mother Joyce Walker (Ms. Walker on the cover of Essence magazine), a model, was the first Black woman to grace the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1972 – with an afro. On top of it all, Jindai is a graduate of Columbia University with a degree in Philosophy. And her godmother is Afeni Shakur.

All of these things and more make Jindai what she is. And then there is star dust. It was sister Afeni that offered Jindai her first songwriting deal at the tender age of 12 years old.  The Harlem native was a singer in IMPACT Repertory Theatre, a group of youth activist that are immersed in the arts. She’s already performed at the Apollo, the Oscars and even prisons. As a investment manager by day, her style as a producer/songwriter/singer is genre-bending at its finest as she blends a weighty themes of sex, the spiritual and intellectual over tracks that are rolled up into R&B,electronic and indie sounds? Jindai, as a cosmic entity, may just go supernova if all the galactic gas and dust continue to form in this way.

In an interview with Buzznet she stated that her new track “Insect Song” was inspired by:

Bjork has helped me to appreciate the sheer power of the female voice and to realize how relatable eccentricity can be.  Bob Dylan inspired me to be myself, as trite as that sounds. Early Regina Spektor inspired me to write interesting vocal melodies and to listen to lyrics. Cocorosie inspired me not to be so clean. The Knife inspired me to dance in new and interesting ways. I could go on and on.
