Join us for a book signing and party for Ishmael Reed’s newest book, The Complete Muhammad Ali, a provocative and tantalizing biography of the legendary fighter, Wednesday night, September 9, 2015 at 6:30pm at the Harlem Arts Salon. $40 includes an autographed copy of the book.
More than a biography, The Complete Muhammad Ali is culture, politics, and boxing history all wrapped up in a revealing, informative, and at times shocking examination of the life of one of the greatest athletes of all times. Reed covers it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly: Ali as brash, young athlete, as champion, as activist, as disciple of the influential, controversial Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam, and as misogynist, pugilist and punching bag.
“Mr. Reed’s prose style resembles the youthful Ali’s ring style. He is unorthodox, brash, yet controlled.”
(The New York Times, March 12, 1978)
Ishmael Reed taught at the University of California-Berkeley for thirty-five years, as well as at Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth. Author of more than twenty-five books, he is a member of Harvard’s Signet Society and Yale’s Calhoun Society.
