Inside Karim Rashid’s Day-Glo East Harlem rental

Curbed NY reports that Karim Rashid’s eye-popping building at 329 Pleasant Avenue in East Harlem has been the subject of much fascination since it was announced back in 2014.

Once known as HAP5 (thanks to its developer, HAP Investments), the building has slowly but surely been rising since then. Its rentals debuted earlier this year, and now, we’ve got a peek inside the colorful development.

The 20 rentals are a mix of studios, one-, and two-bedroom units, with the largest coming in at 711 square feet. Though the building’s exterior has become slightly more subdued from when the it was first announced—recall, if you will, the turquoise and purple balconies that pissed off the building’s East Harlem neighbors—true to Rashid’s aesthetic, it’s still plenty colorful.

The units themselves are sleek and—given Rashid’s penchant for colorful designs—rather muted, with just the slightest hints of neon pink or blue. The white-washed kitchens come with lacquered cabinets; floor-to-ceiling windows, meanwhile, flood the apartments with sunlight. Each unit also has its own private balcony.

As for pricing, studios start at $1,875/month and go as high as $2,460/month and one- and two-bedrooms go from $2,685 to $4,300/month. Leasing for the apartments launched back in February and tenants began moving in this summer. The building’s amenities include storage rooms, bike rooms, an elevator, and a common roof garden with Manhattan views.
