The USS Intrepid will become the first venue in the United States to host the “Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience” beginning July 9, 2016.
What may seem like an odd choice to host a 12,000 square foot Star Trek themed exhibit, the Intrepid is perhaps as rich in space history as a navy ship can be. It was the recovery vessel for both the Mercury and Gemini space missions, as well as the current home to the space shuttle Enterprise named for the Star Trek starship after a successful petition by fans of the show to President Ford in 1976.

Trekkies of all ages will be able to experience a myriad of events: Star Trek film screenings, astronomy nights, slumber parties and tours all with a unique Star Trek slant.
Additionally, joining the Enterprise on the Intrepid will be the shuttlecraft Galileo from the original series that was used to shuttle crew members to and from the fictional Enterprise. Tickets to the exhibit and related functions are on sale now and a full list of events and times can be found on the Intrepid Museum’s website.
