Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) announces that Carla Hall, the acclaimed cuisine author and co-host of ABC’s popular lifestyle series The Chew, will be the emcee at the historic 150th Anniversary Kick-Off Gala Our Purpose is Our Community.
The event will take place on Monday, June 6 from 6:00pm – 10:00pm at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, 333 Adams Street in Brooklyn.
Our Purpose is Our Community is the BCS theme for celebrating the kick-off of this landmark anniversary. The evening will include a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner and an awards ceremony. Notable Brooklyn movers and shakers who have remarkably impacted the borough will be honored.
Hall has won over audiences with her charismatic personality and philosophy to always cook with love. This year, she’s slated to open Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen in Brooklyn. Already, her Barclays Center site has quickly gained a loyal following among Nets and Islanders fans. Hall, a Howard University grad, is best known as a competitor on Bravo’sTop Chef. Her most recent cookbook, Carla’s Comfort Food: Favorite Dishes from Around the World, was published in April 2014, and her first cookbook, Cooking with Love: Comfort Food That Hugs You, was recently re-released in paperback. She serves as a board member for non-profits Pajama Program and GenYouth, in addition, volunteers for the USO, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Feeding America.
“Brooklyn Community Services is delighted that Carla Hall will emcee our 150th anniversary gala. She’s a leader in one of Brooklyn’s hottest industries.” said Marla Simpson, executive director at BCS. “This 150th Anniversary Kick-Off Gala starts BCS’s year-long celebration. Amidst all of the growth and excitement in Brooklyn today, 23 percent of our neighbors continue to live in poverty. Community service, like that exemplified by our gala honorees, is essential to building ONE Brooklyn Community.”
