The Brain Injury Association of New York State (BIANYS) is proud to announce that Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal will receive the Barry Dain Champion of Hope Award.

“… make a real difference in the lives of those living with brain injuries.”
Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal said: “It is truly an honor to receive the 2024 Barry Dain Champion of Hope winner from the Brain Injury Association of New York. Unfortunately, like thousands of New Yorkers, I know what it is like to have someone close to me suffer from a traumatic brain injury. I, and the tens of thousands of New Yorkers who are treated for traumatic brain injuries every single year, am extremely grateful to the Brain Injury Association of New York for the assistance and resources they provide to New Yorkers living with brain injuries, and their loved ones. The Brain Injury Association of New York has also been a tremendous partner in Albany, working with my colleagues and I to make a real difference in the lives of those living with brain injuries. With their help, we in the State Legislature have been able to allocate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Concussion Outreach Prevention & Education program over the past few years and we hope to soon pass the Concussion Management and Awareness Improvement Act to require updated concussion management policies for every school district in New York.”
State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal serves as the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and represents New York’s 47th State Senate District, covering Manhattan’s West Side and has been a steadfast supporter of brain injury survivors. He has shown his commitment through advocacy for the Concussion Management Awareness Improvement Act, which works to strengthen protections and raise awareness for those affected by brain injuries. He supports COPE (Concussion Outreach Prevention Education, which teaches valuable information on how to prevent concussions and to successfully reintegrate a concussed student into the classroom, and he has also provided support and hope to brain injury survivors during BIANYS Advocacy Days.
“… made a meaningful impact …”
“Brad Hoylman-Sigal’s leadership and advocacy have made a meaningful impact not only on New Yorkers, but also on brain injury survivors,” said Eileen Reardon, executive director of BIANYS. “The Senator and his team consistently reach out to the Brain Injury Association of New York State (BIANYS) to ask how they can do more, and they follow through—exemplifying the dedication we hope for in our elected officials. True to his word and character, Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal embodies the spirit of the Barry Dain Champion of Hope Award.”
Hosted at the elegant Midtown Loft & Terrace, the Journey of Hope Gala is a celebration of New York’s brain injury community and a special time to recognize those who have made significant advances in the field of brain injury.
