Hope In Harlem Conference 2024, Youth, Sports, And Mental Health Unite

Join us for the Hope in Harlem Conference 2024, a transformative event focused on youth, sports, and mental health, taking place on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

The event will take place at the First Corinthian Baptist Church, located at 1912 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, Harlem, NY.

The conference runs from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Wellness Street Fair from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This FREE in-person gathering will unite NBA sports leaders, educators, mental health professionals, community partners, and youth leaders to discuss innovative mental health services and share best practices aimed at addressing the rising rates of trauma, depression, anxiety, and suicide among NYC youth.

This year’s theme emphasizes the crucial intersection of youth, sports, and mental health, with a focus on promoting mental wellness through athletics.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with current and retired professional athletes who are passionate about this cause, providing hope and tangible resources for families.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Allan Houston – NY Knicks Legend and Founding Director of the FISLL Project
  • Derek Anderson – NCAA and NBA Champion, Jordan Brand ambassador, and best-selling author
  • Natasha Hastings – Olympic Gold Medalist and alum of A. Philip Randolph High School
  • David Banks – Chancellor of NYC Public Schools
  • Dr. H. Jean Wright – Executive Deputy Commissioner, NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene
  • Rev. Michael Walrond – Senior Pastor, First Corinthian Baptist Church
  • Dr. Bill Parham – Director of the Mental Health and Wellness Program, NBA Players Association
  • Dr. Nyaka NiiLampti – Vice President of Wellness and Clinical Services, NFL

Following the conference, the Wellness Street Fair on 116th Street in Harlem will feature sports exhibitions, face painting for children, mental health resources, and various social service agencies offering support.
