Hip Hip Hurray! Police Athletic League Gala Dinner Features Young Performers Celebrating 110 Years

On June 18, 2024, the Police Athletic League (PAL) hosted a Gala Dinner celebrating 110 years of serving the youth of New York City at The Pierre in Manhattan.

PAL’s Gala Dinner highlighted the impact made by PAL on New York City neighborhoods and its youngest New Yorkers. 

Since its inception in 1914 with the launch of the first Playstreets, PAL has remained steadfast in its mission to nurture and empower the youth of the City and recognizes the vital role that the community, its supporters and participants have played in its enduring legacy.

The event raised over $600,000 and hosted nearly 200 PAL friends and supporters. Young PAL performers from Queens featured on stage include PAL Pathways Prep Drumline and PAL Eddie Byrne Center Dancers.

Governor Kathy Hochul delivered special remarks, in addition to PAL Executive Director Carlos Velazquez. Mark Simone served as Master of Ceremonies. In attendance were NYPD Deputy Commissioner Mark Stewart; NYPD Executive Director Alden Foster; Deputy Commissioner Collaborative Policing, NYPD, Chauncey Parker; Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso; Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark; Assistant Chief of Patrol Borough Bronx Benjamin Gurley and other distinguished guests.

Catsimatidis, Red Apple Group & PAL Co-Chairman; Donna MacPhee, Columbia University & PAL Vice President; Robert J. McGuire, Esq., Former NYC Police Commissioner & PAL Co-Chairman; Bart M. Schwartz, Esq., Guidepost Solutions LLC & PAL President, and Charles A. Stillman, Esq., Ballard Spahr LLP & PAL Vice President.

New York City’s Police Athletic League is a nonprofit organization that provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to 15,000 children and teens annually.
