Henry “Hank” Carter and Wheelchair Charities (WCI) donated 14 state-of-the-art wheelchairs to the residents of NYC Health and Hospital Corporation’s, Henry J. Carter Speciality Hospital and Nursing Facility during a special event on Friday, February 28. The event was held at the Harlem facility and was attended by residents, staff and Harlem community members.
WCI Carter event 01_4The Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility provides the latest in clinical technology and expertise in a modern, beautiful, and welcoming environment. The new Harlem facility offers safe and superior-quality care across the continuum of long-term acute care and skilled-nursing care, with clinical excellence and a patient-focused philosophy as its cornerstone.

In an online conversation with HW Mr. Carter said, “I do this work—charitable giving through fundraising—because God put me in the position to do it. With God’s hand, you can do anything that is good. His hand has directed me every day, and every step of the way.”

Asked why he was in Harlem Mr Carter continued, “Goldwater Hospital, the place where Wheelchair Charities began 41 years ago, has closed its doors. However, many of the people from Goldwater—the patients, residents and staff—have relocated to the new facility in Harlem. We are in Harlem because God sent us to Harlem.”

Located at 1752 Park Avenue and 122nd Street in Harlem, NY, the facility features two separate buildings with a combined 365 beds for two distinct types of healthcare services: long-term acute care and skilled nursing care.
