The Harlem anti-gay church on Lenox Avenue and 123rd Street in Harlem neighborhood greeted passersby with a horrifying, homophobic message: “Jesus would stone homos.”
ATLAH Worldwide Missionary, led by Pastor James David Manning, onetime Fox News commenter posted the message on a sign outside its 123rd Street location. “Jesus would stone homos,” the message read, along with “Stoning is still the law” and Bible verses Matthew 5:17-19, Deuteronomy 17:5-7, Leviticus 20:13 and John 8:1-11.
The Leviticus passage, which is often cited in anti-gay rhetoric, says:
If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
Manning also posted a YouTube video about stoning in which he said Christians who refuse to stone gay people are “advocating lawlessness.”
YouTube has since removed ATLAH’s video for violating the site’s hate speech policy.
ATLAH, which stands for “All The Land Anointed Holy,” made headlines in February for another anti-gay sign, which read: “Obama has released the homo demons on the black man. Look out black woman. A white homo may take your man” (edited source). And the “Obama is evil” from 2011.
