Azealia Banks has a bone to pick with Dolce & Gabbana. The Harlem rapper is known to take issue with tons of people but her disdain towards the fashion line might actually hold some weight.
According to Banks, D&G‘s Spring 2013 line with depictions of what looks like the Black mammie archetype, both on the clothing an accessories, is deplorable.
Allegedly inspired by the twosome’s Sicilian roots, a Black woman with a wrap around her head looks similar to minstrel characters used to depict Black people as nothing more than ignorant slaves and servants.
“Whoever designed that racist a– Dolce and Gabanna collection needs a swift kick in the mouth and a big d-ck up the a–,” Banks wrote on Twitter. “I really hate when people do corny, racist things then try to justify it as ‘art.’ It’s all just really unnecessary. The clothes in the collection were fine without all the ‘black mammie’ imagery.”
Being that Banks is as known for her work, as she is for her fashion sense, speaking out against the fashion powerhouse is an honorable move.
Meanwhile, D&G has not responded.
