Harlem School Of the Arts Gala 2017 Raises $1.2 M For Arts Programs (Photographs)

October 26, 2017

The Harlem School of the Arts recently held its annual Fall Fundraiser 2017, a Masquerade Ball at New York’s Plaza Hotel. The event helped to raise an unprecedented $1.25 million to support HSA’s arts programs, including scholarships and financial aid for underserved students.

The Masquerade Ball was Co-Chaired by our fearless leaders Janice Savin Williams, Rona Sebastian of the Herb Alpert Foundation, Alexander Smalls and Keisha Sutton-James.

This year’s honorees were four remarkable individuals: multi-platinum recording artist, singer/songwriter and actress, Mary J. Blige; Tony Award-winner, Best Featured Actress, HAMILTON, Renee Elise Goldsberry; Dancing with the Stars and HSA Alumni, Ray Chew; and BET Chairman and CEO Debra L. Lee. Throughout the evening, attendees got a glimpse at the enormous talent that is harnessed at HSA, as students performed and wowed the audience of patrons, VIPs and celebrities. In tribute to Mary J. Blige students serenaded the audience with “Take Me As I Am” from Ms. Blige’s 2005 album, The Breakthrough, and they took on HAMILTON’S “My Shot” bringing everyone at the Grand Ballroom to their feet.

Attendees danced the night away to DJ D-NICE’s music mix.
