“Congratulations to the Dominican Republic upon being elected for the first time in the nation’s history as a new non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, which has the primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security,” said Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY- 13). “Such recognition is incredibly important as it furthers the leadership role and relations between the Dominican Republic with the United States and nations around the world on issues pertaining to growth, economic development and human rights.

“I commend the Dominican Republic for not recognizing the fraudulent presidential elections that took place in Venezuela, by backing the resolution of the Organization of American States (OAS), which declared the electoral process illegitimate. With this decision, the Dominican Republic stands on the right side of history sending a strong message that democracy must be preserved and citizens must have their voices heard.”
