Today, Rep. Adriano Espaillat released the following statement today on the Trump Administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nicaraguans:
“The Trump Administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nicaraguans is misguided and deeply troubling,” said Rep. Espaillat. “Many of these individuals have lived in the United States for nearly two decades, are parents to American citizens, and contribute to the American economy.
“I strongly denounce last night’s decision and urge the Administration to reconsider this decision and to also examine and extend TPS for Honduras, El Salvador, and Haiti as not extending TPS will tear families apart, have devastating impacts throughout our communities, and could potentially further destabilize the region. TPS matters for our humanity, our economy, and our national security. I will continue to stand by individuals with TPS and will work with my congressional colleagues to find better long-term solutions that will allow individuals with TPS to remain with their families, continue to contribute to the American economy and work toward the American dream.”
