Harlem Rep Espaillat Announces New Grant Award To The Studio Museum Of Harlem

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat announces a new grant award to The Studio Museum of Harlem in support of its Harlem Permanent Collection Inventory Project:

“The Studio Museum in Harlem celebrates and memorializes the timeless history and success of Harlem,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). “I am enormously proud to see this effort recognized by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to celebrate, recognize, and support The Studio Museum of Harlem’s mission highlighting Harlem’s iconic place in American history and its indelible mark on the national and international history of African American culture.”

Thelma Golden, Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, said, “This grant from IMLS will support our crucial, ongoing project of creating a full inventory of our permanent collection, ensuring access to information on some two centuries of documented history and supporting our use of these artworks for activities that include free public and educational programming. We are grateful to Representative Espaillat and IMLS for supporting our mission, as we look ahead toward showcasing our collection in the new home of The Studio Museum in Harlem, designed by Adjaye Associates with Cooper Robertson.”

First elected to Congress in 2016, Rep. Adriano Espaillat is serving his second term in Congress where he serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the House Small Business Committee.  He serves as a Senior Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) where he also serves in a leadership role as CHC Whip. He is also chairman of the CHC Task Force for Transportation, Infrastructure and Housing.
