Congressman Adriano Espaillat issued the following statement today regarding his appointment to a new leadership role within the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC).
“I am honored to have been selected as the Freshman Representative for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), and I look forward to working with my congressional colleagues in this leadership role to help amplify CHC legislative priorities and accomplishments throughout the Democratic Caucus,” said Rep. Espaillat.
“As the first Dominican-American and Latino of Afro descent to serve in the United States Congress, and now as the only East Coast member in CHC leadership, I believe my unique perspective will serve the Caucus on a variety of issues, particularly as it relates to our efforts on diversity hiring initiatives and investments in affordable housing and infrastructure.”
The role of the Freshman Representative will assist with Whip operations to communicate the CHC’s message and legislative priorities with the broader Democratic Caucus, as well as ensure that new CHC members are fully integrated into the Caucus and aware of activities, including Task Forces, briefings, meetings and events.
