Tennis stars and celebrities including James Blake, Mayor David Dinkins, Jeanne Ashe and more, with the evening’s emcee, Al Roker of the Today Show. were on hand to celebrate the Harlem Junior Tennis & Education Program’s 42 years of Service.
This year’s honorees will include James Blake, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Cinta Del Monaco Kemp, and James Kelly III. The event took place at Guastavino’s on Monday, May 5, 2014.
With a 90% high school graduation rate, approximately 25% of HJTEP participants go on to be awarded college tennis scholarships. Some of the colleges our alumni have attended are Duke, Howard, Syracuse, Tulane, Harvard, Dartmouth, Columbia, Temple, Rutgers, Georgetown, New York University and many others.
