Harlem World Magazine congratulates the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem as one of four independent venues honored at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards’ live venues, Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Billy Mitchell, Apollo’s in-house historian and tour director who has worked at the Apollo for 55 years, presented the category of Best Rap Song.
In addition, NYC musical acts won six awards, and NYC productions won two awards, for a total of eight GRAMMY Winners included The Strokes, Fiona Apple, Lady Gaga, Nas, Jay-Z and more.
“I’m proud to see New York City talent featured at music’s biggest night—especially at a time when our music industry—from artists to venues—have been so hard hit by the pandemic,” said the Commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Anne del Castillo. “The wide range of artists and works recognized at this year’s event is a testament to our city’s position as a global creative capital, and our resilience during a challenging year.”
