Get The Low Down On Harlem Collage Master Romare Bearden At The High Museum

May 18, 2019

The Harlem high priest of collage is at the High Museum of Art’s upcoming show, Something Over Something Else: Romare Bearden’s Profile Series opening in Atlanta

Something Over Something Else will reunite more than 30 collages from Romare Bearden’s renowned Profile series and will show the works together in sequence, referencing the experience of the series’ original presentation by incorporating their handwritten captions in the accompanying wall texts.

Inspired by the High’s recent acquisition of a key work from the series, Profile/Part II, The Thirties: Artist with Painting and Model, the exhibition provides the opportunity to explore an understudied body of work and investigates the roles of narrative and self-presentation for an artist who made a career of creating works based on memory and experience.

A great reunion of works that capture the artist’s insight into early 20th century American life.

High Museum of Art, 1280 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309, 404.436.6872, http://www.high.org/ opens on September 14, 2019, through February 2, 2020, ahead of before it travels to the Cincinnati Art Museum, 953 Eden Park Dr, Cincinnati, OH 45202, 513.721.ARTS.2787, https://www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org/ from February 28 to May 24, 2020.
